Interrelationships with Culture and Visual Entertainmen Essay Culture and visual entertainment media have an interrelationship with each other such as film and television. As the years go by and more and more television shows and movies have been created they have in my opinion become of a reflection of our cultural times. Society is watching the films and television and seeing that they can relate to what they are watching which then they are able to take away a message. People can see visual instead of having to read to learn which can give them a different perspective that they may not have thought of on their own. As people view the visual entertainment they and see what is being influenced from the way people act, dress, talk, and so forth since it is what is shaping our culture. The Brady Bunch is an example of how families were starting to see that families can merge together and become one family, the outfits and hairstyles were being mimicked by people in everyday life. I remember watching this show thinking how â€Å"cool† is it to have two families merge together. This showed that the social influences of visual entertainment media can be positive. People can still watch visual media that is been out dated but still learn about American culture with such shows. Another example is â€Å"The Breakfast Club† this movie is a classic and still very relevant to how our American culture is shaped. In this movie they look at individuals and show that even though we are from all walks of life such as a jock, nerd, snob, shy, and criminal that we all have similarities in the end if we stop and take a moment to see. I Love Lucy† was a huge influence on visual entertainment people wanted to have the grace, the silliness, and could also see that they lived modestly which made it relate to society. Visual media can be negative as well a positive influence on social behavior. When we view visual entertainment I would say majority want to emulate the celebrities that they are viewing which can be negative or positive depending on that moment. People want to fit in society and with visual entertainment that can shape them in to something different. I remember during the eighty’s all of the shows and movies I watch were all the underdog wins in the end and I felt that this is what I want I want to be the underdog the stand along and befriends with everyone. Guess what I was that person I still am that person as well as I take up for the underdog and befriend everyone as well as treat everyone with respect no matter what. I can thank â€Å"Sixteen Candles, Full House, The Breakfast Club, The Outsiders, and I Love Lucy† were all visual entertainment that made me who I am as well as a lot of others.

For the Lakota peoples of North America, cultural misunderstanding culminated with Euro-American misinterpretation of the purpose of the Native American Ghost Dance with its related religious beliefs and the massacre of peaceful Native American Lakota people as th ey were attempting to flee to the safety of the Agency at Pine Ridge Reservation near Wounded Knee Creek in what is now the state of South Dakota. When contact was made with indigenous peoples, Europeans discovered that the languages of the indigenous peoples did not include words for religion or for God as Europeans understood these concepts. These Europeans considered themselves a civilized and pious people who lived according to the ways and teachings of the Christian Bible and believed that this was the only proper and correct code of conduct. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring The Fellowship of the Ring is the first book in a trilogy of books. The main character is Frodo Baggins. Frodo is one of many unusual creatures that are not heard of normally in books called Hobbits. Hobbits are quiet, peace-loving, simple creatures. They enjoy leisure activities and generally do not like to take risks or go on adventures. Hobbits who like to do such things are looked down to by society, and are generally considered queer-folk. And this is a story about one of those hobbits and his friends. The story starts off at Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday party, Bilbo is Frodo’s uncle. Bilbo had built up a reputation of being queer, and having gold hidden in his home. He had previously gone on an adventure in the book The Hobbit. In the book, Bilbo finds a ring, a ring that later he finds, holds magical properties. And when he feels the need to go on one last adventure and leave the Shire all together, he disappears at the end of his party, leaving the ring to Frodo. â€Å"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future. –Galadriel, elf queen. Gandalf, who is a wise wizard who accompanied Bilbo on his adventure in The Hobbit, fills Frodo in on what needs to be done to the ring, and that he needs to leave the Shire, possibly forever. Frodo is accompanied by: Samwise Gamgee, Frodo’s best friend; Peregrin Took, also known as Pippin; Meriadoc Brandybuck, also known as Merry; and later on is joined by Aragorn, a ranger who is known as Strider; Lego las, an elf friend of Aragorn’s; Gimli, a dwarf who befriends the group; and Boromir, a man from Gondor. They travel from the Shire to the lawn of Parth Galen, which is where the Fellowship separates. Pippin and Merry are captured by a battalion of Orcs, which Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli follow in pursuit. Boromir falls trying to protect the two hobbits, and Frodo tries to escape to go to Mordor alone, but Sam follows him and soon Frodo is glad to have him along. Gandalf had died fighting a Balrog in Moria. Frodo changes from being light-hearted and spirited to dark, and serious. The ring starts to change him, and it starts to be a burden to carry. He is constantly tempted to slip it on in times of danger. And he soon finds out that he cannot trust anyone. This book was banned and challenged, because of the black magic, and the idea of good versus evil. Personally, I do not think it should be banned or challenged. It really doesn’t have anything that stands out to me as something that no one should read, or even be restricted. I see no problem with the ideas of magic and good versus evil. This book is such a good read. The story is very thorough and detailed, giving the reader a clear image of what is happening. This book is valued as entertainment, and an adventure to experience. I loved the book, I thought it was a great read and would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy, and who loves adventures, because that is what it is, a fantasy and an adventure. The ending is a major cliffhanger! It draws you in and leaves you begging for more, therefore I am going to start the sequel as soon as possible.

For instance, the 3D-shooter series, Quake, has sold millions of copies and essentially everyone in the world has seen it or played it. The entertainment industry not only provides gaming amusement but it also contributes learning programs, for children and adults, to help individuals excel in a certain trouble areas. Furthermore, computers also are also capable of training military personal in a virtual reality environment. An example of this is the U.S. and Canadian military, they both train soldiers and pilots in the ways of war using high tech computers and virtual reality equipment. To sum up, entertainment on the computer may not be important but is does satisfy million of people worl dwide. Cities as we know them today would not exist if it were not for the help of the computer. In a modern city hundreds of items are under control by computers and most of them we take for granted. For example, the traffic lights at all intersections are controlled by computers and sometimes even with the support of underground sensors. Without computers the entire electrical grid would fail and all of the worlds neoteric population would be without precious electricity. Another instance in which computers aid the modern city is the sewage and water system. Without computers, entire series of pumps and water stations would seize and stop working, which translates to a city without running water. On the whole, computers are a necessary innovation to help modern cities function to their fullest potential. Probably the most widely used program on a computer is the word processor. It has helped millions of people type up important documents with extreme accuracy and eye-catching visuals.
